Thrifting - James Joyce print, art photography, Wedgwood

Image
It is odd how my "honey hole" shop almost never disappoints. I got this extra large shopping bag. There is no labels of any sort but its large, strong and good looking for my thrifting. All items I bought that day fit right in and there was room for more.                                                                                                     Cool looking and signed print of James Joyce. Print is in pop art style and you would not be surprised to find this as a street art peace. I think it is pretty iconic representation of loved Irish novelist and poet. The print is pencil signed but hard to read. I did look around internet and found it to be by John Rooney. https://www.etsy.com/listing/250062161/portrait-of-james-joyce-irish-author I also found a good documentary about James Joyce https://youtu.be/igltIkflA8s?si=6Bl_XKJ7RyXaT2Ak Great find. I found two good large size shawls. I sometimes layer my table setting with shawls...these are great quality. And of cours

Successful thrifting week - Silk, ceramics, wood etc

Underneath of all finds on main photo I have this tablecloth or maybe it is even bead spread...who knows. Its thick and good quality and has elephants on it...Indian? I think the thread might even be silk? There is no label and I am no textile specialist but it looks and feels fabulous.  Stunning find. This is fabulous red candle holder. It has carved eagles or cranes carved on the sides. It has also incised makers mark "Taelstone 1999 C " I could not find any info about but it or maker but looks beautiful quality to me and is heavy to hold one long candle and not fall over. Handmade turned and carved mango wood jar. Very nice indeed, to store anything inside really. 100% silk scarf by Tie Rack. Hand turned and stitched edge tell the quality oh it and I love its colors. The silk items ( like ties and scarfs ) were made in Italy.   Company is currently for sale. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tie_Rack I could not resist this grumpy looking Santa. It is hand painted on porcela

Thrifitng tartan throw for winter and Kickers boots kick the punch

I think star find from this haul for me are these Kickers boots. I love the color and they are so quirky.  https://www.kickers.com/en/content/6-success-story This black bead necklace has so many strains that I cant even count them. Very effective and elevates any outfit. Two shawls. The wool tartan throw is by Abercromby & Fitch so soft and warm. I love the colors too. https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/CustomerService?pageName=brand-protection&storeId=19159&textKey=LEGAL_BRAND_PROTECTION&catalogId=11556&langId=-1 Other shawl had cute foxes on it that I could not resist. I love history and anything about Rome Empire fascinates me. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35403647-caligula Looking forward to read this and I hope its not disappointing. This " The Gilding Book" is a reference and good " How to guild" sourcebook.  Great coffee table book for inspiration. This is cool large wooden bowl, has also makers mark initials underneath. T G. Thrifting clothing

Last week picks are from different charity shops.  Last week only home deco item was this glass vase. I love its design...two glass tiles with delicate iris picture infused. It has tube like vase in the middle so it would fit only 1 to 2 flowers. But I like it, its dainty and gives me Japanese vibe. It does have artist initial on the right below corner. I Think its A and E. Is this fused glass art ? Steven Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow " The Grand Design". I have not read it, I have only heard quotes from it and about this book. It's time to read it and wonder about Grand Design of things.  https://youtu.be/CMJFfaKZXRs?si=WPPbXm0j5klb9Hxj No surprise here. Jenny Gibbs " Interior Design" book. Written for interior design students and aspiring amateurs.  Yes, I am the latter 😀 It is interesting book. Advising on look at architectural drawings of the building, to take account of locations of doors and windows and how the light flows in the rooms...to create a moo

Thrifting majolica and XXL size Wallpaper Sample books

This weeks finds. The moment I noticed this majolica frogs planter I immediately had big smile in my face. There are 10 frogs sitting on the rim of that planter and staring back at you. So cute. Google image gave me multiple images and this was described by other as Chinese produce. Not sure...there are only number 34 and letter Z underneath. Zorro?  I love it! Colorful polka dot and flowers 100% silk scarf .  What there not to like...been wearing this already and it elevates my mood. These two heavy cast iron whippet book ends I picked up just few hours ago while passing my local mall charity shop. Saw them on the window and anything sculptural speaks to me immediately. I have plenty of books that these could keep upright just magnificently.                                                                                      Next I stumbled very interesting pile of XXL size books at my "honeyhole" charity shop. There were five of those books but I chose most cool looking

Thrifting haul from Estonia and Ireland

Image
From Estonia I got the tablecloth and necklace, rest is from Ireland. I spent a week in Estonia and in between of galleries, museums and concert visits I found a moment to pop in Uuskasutuskeskus shop. It is a chain of shops promoting sustainable lifestyle and give new home to unwanted items.  https://uuskasutus.ee/en/about-us/ Look at the beautiful colors on this linen tablecloth. And it was waiting there for me...because look how well it goes with the pottery I found later in Ireland. Its a bit strange indeed but it makes me happy. I found these three vintage from 1980s pots from one charity shop in Ireland. They are all signed O'Neill Ireland...one has date 1989 as well. They are beautiful and I believe them to be by Rob O'Neill who in those years worked in Bunratty and Waterford. R & M O'Neill Designs Waterford Above is gathered from different info I get from Google Images. I am unable to find more specific info about this potter. Berret from Primark. 100% wool and

Thrifting star find Mary Southard vase

Lovely haul from the weekend. I found this old original oil painting that charmed me. It is really old based on the back as I think it is painted on board and the frame is old and secured with nails. I love this naive scene of children at the mill wheel. I can imagine someone spending their time painting it...and Id say its from 1900s. Lovely boho bangle on brass and colorful chips on the black back round. Wearable with anything really. Another boho vibe candle holder from Safi, Morocco. It is known region for pottery for centuries. I found this interesting video on YouTube https://youtu.be/X5c67TSKnzA?si=KMDhX7JSVDT_9i7L I have a quite collection of Interior Design books by now. But I so enjoy to browse them so I keep picking them. I still have little more space for them...but soon I need to start listing them on Ebay. This one is by Carol Meredith https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10245253-room-by-room
